Can-O-Worms

Can-O-Worms is an odorless, user friendly worm farm / composting system that allows anyone to participate in recycling. Its compact and stylish design makes it versatile and attractive enough to use anywhere - even inside!

Can-O-Worms turns your organic household waste into rich compost and liquid fertiliser. The innovative stacking tray design allows for easy removal of the finished worm castings from the bottom tray, and liquid fertiliser (also known as vermi-tea or worm tea) from the collector tank - without having to handle the worms or decomposing organic waste.

The layered design of Can-O-Worms allows worms to move upwards through the working trays toward the food in the upper trays, leaving behind a rich organic compost as they go. Kitchen scraps are placed in the top tray and new trays are added until the third (upper) working tray gets full.

The rich compost that has developed in the bottom tray can then be tipped out and the emptied bottom tray becomes the new top tray. A conveniently positioned tap allows nutrient-rich liquid fertiliser to be harvested for use as a plant tonic. Both the lid and collector tray have fly-proof ventilation holes.

Once established the Can-O-Worms can house a population of between 12,000 and 16,000 (3 to 4 kgs) of earthworms.

If you start with 1000 earthworms the worm population will take 2-3 years to reach these numbers - if they are well looked after.

At this stage the earthworms can consume up to three times their weight in kitchen scraps a week - up to 2,25kg of soft, wet fruit and vegetable waste per day - converting these into rich earthworm castings.

To get this kind of production from your worm bin requires patience while the worm population builds up, and management of moisture, temperature and the quantity of food that is fed to the worms.

The worms double in biomass every 4 to 6 months, so when starting out with a small population one must start with small amounts of food and increase slowly as the population increases.

We recommend that Can-O-Worms be started with minimum of 1 000 compost worms (Eisenia feotida / E. ardenii). Earthworms must be purchased separately - click on the EARTHWORMS tab on the left bar or scroll down the list of products and add them to your shopping basket.

Reln began as father and son business with a mission to take one type of waste out of the waste stream and make something new that would, in itself, further reduce waste.  They produced the world's first domestic wormery. It took them 15 - 20 years to develop the Can-O-Worms and Worm Factory that we stock today. So you see they have had a lot of time to get the design right!
Did you know that only 5% of the world's plastic is 100% recycled? The Reln Can-O-Worms and Worm Factory are made from good quality 100% recycled plastic. 
We've experimented with many different types of wormeries, even making some of our own but we haven't yet found anything as good as Reln's. The Can-O-Worms and Worm Factory are sturdy yet light, have a good fitting lid to prevent water and pests getting in and are well designed for easy use and of course, most importantly, for earthworm welfare.
